Tour Notes: Stacy Earle and Mark Stuart at Acoustic Brew

Posted on April 5, 2010 with 0 comments

My tour started in central Pennsylvania, opening for Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart at the Acoustic Brew concert series. The concerts are held in an old church that is now a yoga center and run by a crew of excellent and dedicated volunteers. All the shows are done unmiked and the room loves sound.

Stacey has a husky country voice and a puckish stage presence. Several of her stories feature her wayward 15-year-old self - still a visible presence within her current persona of seasoned performer and mother of grown-up children.

Mark has perfected the style of effortless lead guitar that never throws in two notes where one will do. He played a number of songs from his new solo project “Left of Nashville” (“because he is,” says Stacey.)

Freed from the tyranny of guitar leads, Mark and Stacey inhabited the whole stage - standing, sitting, dancing, swapping sides, leaning up against each other. Several times, Stacey left the stage entirely to sing confidingly to listeners in the front row and along the aisle.

Stacey and Mark are at the beginning of 3 months on the road, including dates in England.
